Everything we do in life is rooted in theory - bell hooks

It is my duty as an educator to use the resources and available avenues of reputable information to form my teaching practices and shape my mind, to always evolve my thinking as the new information presents itself to best serve my students and their unique needs. In short, it is to be an innovator.

By supporting the emotional development of myself and my students, I support the learning and growth each of us is capable of reaching. Who we are and what we believe depends a lot on the social environment we are raised in the same can be said of learning environments.

Emotional intelligence gives all students a support system to stand on and freedom from unhealthy learned behaviors. Giving ALL the tools necessary for success in life is giving my students an equitable education.

In their review of research on the topic of teachers' emotion regulation, Sutton, Mudrey-Camino and Knight (2009) found that teachers who consistently and thoughtfully regulates their emotions in the classroom reported feeling more confident, focused and more effective at maintaining relationships with their Students.

Albert Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory explains an individual’s psychological functioning as a result of three key variables interacting with one another: Environmental, Behavioral, and Cognitive/Personal. According to Bandura, a child’s environment greatly influences their behavior and learning processes.
